Writing guidelines

  • Use of language
Simple, plain English should be used across the site. Avoid using any words or language which may not be commonly understood. Technical language, jargon or abbreviations should not be used. Some phrases used by young people in the borough (slang, txt speak etc.) may be used so long as they don’t offend or exclude visitors to the site.
Offensive content includes foul and abusive language, or anything which may discriminate against someone because of gender, sexuality, race, religion, age, physical or mental disability.
  • Keep it fun
We want the site to be lively and interesting, as well as informative. However, a light-hearted approach may not work for all sections of the site - please use common sense and sensitivity when dealing with serious issues.

External links

The Youth Space website includes links to websites of interest to young people not managed by Haringey Council. These links are provided to offer users useful information, which they may wish to explore. All links to external websites are clearly marked with the words “(external link)” within the link text so as not to confuse these links from other pages on the Youth Space website – e.g. visit the Crimestoppers (external link).

  • Haringey Council is not responsible for the contents or reliability of the linked web sites and does not necessarily agree with any views on these sites.
  • Listing of sites should not be taken as support of any kind.
  • Although we regularly check links from our pages, we cannot guarantee that these links will work all of the time and we have no control over the availability of the linked pages.
  • We do not link to external websites which are not free to access.
  • We do not link to external websites in return for cash, services or any other consideration in kind.

If you know of a website which would be of interest to young people in Haringey then email details to youthspace@haringey.gov.uk.
